Benefits
All benefits are offered to employees of Cherokee Health Systems (CHS) who regularly work 30 hrs per week or more; employees who work at least 30 hrs per week but less than 40 will be offered a pro-rated benefit of paid holiday time and PTO accrual. The only exception is that employees need only work 20 hrs per week or more to qualify to participate in the tax-deferred 403b retirement plan.

Your Health
Medical Plan – CHS partners with BCBS of TN to offer 3 competitive medical insurance plans, including a PPO option, and two high-deductible health plans with optional HSAs.
Dental Plan – CHS dental coverage is administered through BCBS of TN and can be enrolled in separately from our medical plan, if desired.
Vision Plan – CHS vision coverage is administered through BCBS of TN and can be enrolled in separately from our medical plan, if desired. CHS also offers in-house optometry services at our Center City location, which employees are eligible to use at a discounted rate.
Flexible Spending Accounts – CHS allows employees to enroll in three types of flexible spending accounts, depending upon medical coverage that is selected. Health Savings Account (HSA) is tied directly to our HDHP and comes with a match from CHS of up to $500/yr for individuals and $1000/yr for family coverage. A Flexible Spending Account (FSA), as well as a Dependent Care FSA, can be used in conjunction with any of the health plans (limited on options 3&4) or as a stand-alone benefit for tax savings.
Company-Paid
Teladoc – All CHS employees, regardless of health insurance enrollment, receive access for themselves and any household member to Teladoc. Teladoc gives you 24/7/365 virtual care from providers in their network for general issues and consultations.
Teletherapy - Provides 24/7/365 access to personalized mental health support through remote licensed care and digital programs. Free for all eligible, full-time employees, and their family members.
Long-term Disability – CHS has joined with Unum to provide employees with a long-term disability policy at no cost to them, it pays 60% of the employee’s monthly wage after an elimination period of 90 days.
Basic Group Life Insurance – CHS offers employees with life insurance through Unum in the amount of 1x their annual salary, rounded to the nearest $1000.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment - CHS offers employees with AD&D insurance through Unum in the amount of 1x their annual salary, rounded to the nearest $1000.
Employee assistance program – CHS prioritizes our employees physical and mental well-being, everyone has access to EAP services with Unum, which allows up to 3 visits per issue per calendar year with licensed counselors.
Paid Time Off
Holidays – CHS observes 10 paid holidays (along with 2 half days) throughout the year where all clinics and offices are closed and employees have time to relax and enjoy their families.
PTO Bank – CHS believes in offering generous paid time off for employees that can be used however they see best. PTO accrual is based on job position and time of service.
Bereavement Leave – Additional paid leave is granted in the event of a death of a close family member, three to five days depending on relationship.
Jury Duty – CHS allows employees to serve on jury duty without loss or delay in pay. Any employee who receives a summons to court for jury duty is paid as normal. Reimbursement checks must be forwarded to payroll if/when received.
Retirement/Other
403b Retirement Plan – CHS recognizes that employees should save now to prepare for later. Employees are eligible to participate in the retirement plan administered through Empower immediately upon hire. After meeting the length of service requirement, CHS will contribute 3% of the employee’s salary to the account along with matching an additional up to 3% of employee contributions.
Continuing Education Reimbursement – CHS assists licensed positions in maintaining and paying for CEUs on the required schedule.
Bilingual-multilingual differential pay – CHS serves a diverse community and compensates individuals whose language skills match at least 10% of the patient visits at their health center. To be eligible, the employee must be in a direct patient care role and apply for the pay through HR.
Voluntary & Supplemental
Short-term disability – CHS has joined with Unum to provide employees with a short-term disability policy. It pays 60% of the employee’s monthly wage after an elimination period of 14 days.
Critical Illness: Voluntary coverage that provides a lump sum benefit payment if diagnosed with covered illness. Also includes a “Be-Well Benefit” payment for receiving select preventive care services.
Employee term life insurance – CHS employees can elect to purchase additional life insurance for themselves at a lower rate through Unum. A guaranteed issue amount of up to $200,000 at new hire enrollment is available.
Spouse life insurance – CHS employees can elect to purchase additional life insurance for their spouse at a lower rate through Unum. A guaranteed issue amount of up to $30,000 at new hire enrollment is available.
Child life insurance – CHS employees can elect to purchase additional life insurance for their child(ren) at a lower rate through Unum. A guaranteed issue amount of up to $10,000 at new hire enrollment is available.
Legal & ID Shield – CHS has an optional benefit for employees to gain access to legal services under a discounted rate with add on identity theft protection.
