Hispanic & Latino Care
Over the years, Cherokee Health Systems (CHS) has worked to increase its awareness of the ever-growing agricultural/migrant and Hispanic communities in Tennessee, providing special outreach services to those who experience more challenges than others in accessing care. Our bilingual staff and community volunteers bridge the language barrier to provide our Spanish-speaking communities with information about CHS' services, community resources, and general health education.
However, what makes this program so special is that we meet people where they are, whether that be on the farm, at home, at community events, or in our health canters.
Ensuring our Spanish-speaking communities receive adequate information and care, especially during critical times, is our priority. This is why one of our main efforts during COVID-19 was to provide the following:
- Culturally and linguistically responsive resources in Spanish to ensure our Hispanic communities received up-to-date information.
- Evidence-based and community engaged educational campaigns in partnership with the Tennessee Community Engaged Alliance Against COVID-19.
- Opportunities for COVID-19 testing and vaccinations in partnership with organizations like Centro Hispano and through travel to community events with our mobile clinic.
We are currently expanding our network of partners and collaborators by building and strengthening relationships with Hispanic populated organizations such as the Tennessee Migrant Education Program, Monterey Mushroom, and Pope Farms.
